Powder Paint Blow-Off Success Story

Powerful air blow-off system added to assembly before powder coating in manufacturing plant

Powerful Air Blow-Off Before Powder Coating Saves Energy and Improves Quality

Powder coating requires a clean, dry surface. Metal parts travel through a tunnel spray washer and pretreatment system before paint is applied, and any rinse water or wash solution left on the parts causes problems in the drying oven: drips, water stains, and rust that compromise the finish before powder is ever introduced.

One manufacturer was dealing with exactly that. Puddles of rinse water were carrying through to the oven, resulting in recurring quality defects and inconsistent surface prep.

The Maxum Solution

A Maxumizer® Air Blower paired with large Nozzle Bar® Air Knife devices was installed at the exit of the spray washer. The system removed streaks, droplets, and excess solution from parts before they entered the oven, giving the oven cleaner, drier parts to work with from the start.

The Nozzle Bar® handles mixed part geometry well. Its patented converging and laminar flow design delivers strong, even blow-off across varied sizes and shapes, which is exactly what a powder coating line sees from run to run.

The Result

Maxum Air Blow-off not only improved powder paint quality, it allowed the customer to reduce their drying oven temperature. Lower oven temperature meant direct energy savings, and with parts entering the oven drier and cleaner, production output increased as well.

Three measurable wins from one system: better finish quality, lower energy costs, and higher throughput.
